Over 100 people started applying to our regranting campaign! We’re sifting through and reviewing the completed applications now, so stay tuned for more announcements in the Fall! If you ain’t signed up yet for our email list, do it now ;)

FAQ’s:

Is the application long?

Nope. But you can start and save your answers to come back to it later. You login with your email.

Is there an age requirement? I’ve been in the game for awhile. Can I apply?

Priority given to 18-30 yr olds or those who consider themselves "novice"— think new artists and young people.

So can any type of young artist from the South Side apply?

Visual & Performance Artists (dance, textiles, illustration, sculpture, graphic design, photography, painting, murals, video)

So awardees get the $ and that's it?

Nope! $3500 this Fall, PLUS promotions afterwards and a mentorship-like support session for their project/practice w/ some EAC members. You’re already family, but this will be like becoming “family-family” ;)

Do I already need to be working on a project now?

Nope. You just need to have an idea & intention to start a project this year or already have an artistic practice that does 1 or both of the following:

  • Activates and inspires positive change through community engagement or transformative placemaking.

  • highlights and celebrates the "character" of a South Side neighborhood.

I have a question that’s not listed here. What do I do?

Why we’re doing this

To keep that same energy…We know firsthand that there are many creatives, particularly Black and Brown creatives in Chicago who have concepts and projects that rarely get amplified, or those artists just don't know how to unlock capital to support their ideas. We at EAC intend to keep the same energy from our guerilla-style micro grant we did in June of 2020 (where we personally dropped small funds into other artists’ CashApps) and connect with even more South Side creatives—>The ultimate goal?

To help 10 of them—particularly young adults or those who might be considered "new" or "just starting out"— develop projects that specifically drive constructive civic interactions, and/or activates and inspires positive change via community engagement/organizing or placemaking— thusly improving the quality of life for locals. We aim to utilize our $3500 per artist awards as an illumination point, promoting their concepts not just as an investment in a valuable public resource—our artists—but reinforcing a net of support as seeds for future development of their work and/or new works to come.
